LEATHER TANNERY (EST. 1954) - VICENZA, ITALY

Leather is the backbone of our footwear, and we researched over 70 tanneries before finding the perfect partner for our sneakers. Crafting leather since 1954, skins from this tannery has been sought after by major luxury brands for generations due to its high-end finish and natural feel. Producing exclusively full-grain leather (i.e. the best around), the tannery has won international awards around quality, ethical, and environmental practice. We were happy to learn that the factory owners are big supporters of small, family farms as it allows them to track exactly where their hides come from. The result: a premium full-grain leather that matures beautifully over time.

THE SHOEMAKER WORKSHOP (EST. 1998) - FELGUEIRAS, Portugal

When we set out to make our first loafer, we knew we wanted quality that would stand the test of time. We interviewed over 35 footwear factories throughout Europe but none met the quality and ethical standards we were looking for. We then met Diego, who manages production for a few high-end brands and agreed to help us out. He introduced us to the owner of this factory, Flavia, who has been producing for a handful of small luxury brands for generations. Each pair takes days to complete, as every step is done by hand. In order to execute our designs perfectly, we collaborate closely with Flavia and his team through the entire process.

Shoes

Margom (EST. 1954) – Le Marche, Italy
The simplest shapes often require the most detail. To create the timeless, low profile look we wanted for the sole of this sneaker, we needed a partner that could craft outsoles the old way, yet marry it with the latest technology. Our initial attempts to work with Margom were difficult due to our lower volume. However, after some persistence and a few introductions we forged a partnership. Founded in 1952 with just two machines and five employees, Margom has become the premier provider for luxury rubber outsoles. Its lightweight design is longer lasting and resistant to splitting and abrasion, and it uses a Shore 70A rubber durometer rating for maximum comfort and longevity. The result: a comfortable outsole that stands the test of time.

Comfort and quality

These shoes are incredibly comfortable and look great. I’ve gotten compliments from friends, but also from two strangers, and I’ve only had them for a week! They feel like they’ll last a long time and don’t have the look of a cheap $100 boot. Feels worth the cash to me so far!

Quality & Comfort

I spent MANY hours researching boots to replace my old pair of leather boots and settled on these SB 1's from Oliver Cabell. Out of the box these smelled, looked, and felt like a quality pair of boots. I personally love the hickory waxed kudu because I like to oil and condition my boots (I don't like to bother with polish). These boots take really well to shoe oil and conditioner and the color isn't altered significantly (see picture). I wore them out to a concert last weekend and stood in them for hours without any discomfort, so they don't need to be broken in for extended periods of time. I have wide feet and sized up, BUT they were too long so I sized down. To my surprise, the boots fit perfectly. Looking forward to seeing how the leather ages with constant use and care.

Pretty good boot

This is actually my favorite of all the SB1 leathers - I think the kudu leather looks great and I love the overall color of the shoe and am excited for how it will age. I also purchased a pair of low 1's and jabbar highs and I will say OC's size calculator has ONLY been accurate for me for these SB1 boots - the sneakers fit true to my regular athletic sneaker size.

Back to the boots - the leather feels incredibly supple out the box - not limp by any means, but definitely soft and hugs your foot and is incredibly comfortable considering zero break in. I wish the leather laces were finished on both sides because I like to lace my boots the traditional way not the bar lacing that they come with, and when I do that every other cross the laces are unfinished side up. I also think it's a little lazy on OC's part that the product description says these shoes have waxed cotton laces like their low 1's but these have leather laces as you can clearly see in the photos and upon unboxing. Not a bad thing IMO but in a way I would've preferred waxed cotton so that I could tie the laces a little better - I feel it's hard to get the leather laces fully tight due to their thickness.

Overall very happy! Extremely solid boots for the price ($210), considering their plain white low 1's go for $220 at the moment with their summer sale and various other sales they run through the year.
